Lakhimpur is suggested to have come from word 'Lakshmi', the goddess of wealth and prosperity and 'pur' stands for “full”, so 'Lakhimpur' means 'full of paddy'.

The second meaning is "City", so 'Lakhimpur' means 'The City of Wealth and Prosperity'.
